The trend towards the adoption of the web as a development environment is likely to intensify thanks to both the emergence of mobile cloud computing and the low latency of the next-generation access networks. With increased reliance on end users, the web and cloud applications new business models and revenue streams will emerge from multiple sources that include advertising, network charges to third-party service providers and the creation of premium services for the enterprise market. http://mirai-ltd.com/news-head-in-the-clouds-10.aspxThu, 18 Feb 2010 23:30:32 GMT4a836f03-1f01-4c9b-bbd7-5e530f6cf69aSmartphones for the masses have arrivedRival manufacturers attempt to take a slice of Apple's market share launching a slew of cheaper handsets. Deloitte is predicting the start of a sales explosion, it believes by 2012 smartphone unit sales could pass the half-billion mark and in the same year generate around £4.6 billion worth of advertising largely from mobile search. Samsung's new Wave and Motorola's Quench, both launched at Mobile World Congress offer smartphone capabilities but are expected to undercut the iPhone's price tag. Similarly LG launched its own affordable smartphone, the InTouch Max earlier this month. Mobile phone expert Ernest Doku, of Omio.com, said: "The soundbite from almost every manufacturer at Mobile World Congress was the democratisation of the smartphone. "Everybody wants to bring the smartphone to the masses and the consumer is demanding that extra level of connectivity, however they don't necessarily want to pay a premium. So the manufacturers are meeting them halfway with devices that offer social media with a high-quality touch experience in a more affordable device." http://mirai-ltd.com/news-smartphones-for-the-masses-have-arrived-12.aspxThu, 18 Feb 2010 23:29:21 GMT4a836f03-1f01-4c9b-bbd7-5e530f6cf69aApple's clean slateRemember those tiny little Motorola things people used to marvel at? Not any more, though. It used to be all about miniaturisation, the smaller they could get the phones, the better they were seen to be. In January Apple launched what looked for all like the biggest mobile phone there’s ever been, except it wasn’t a phone, it was an iPad. The iPad seems to be primarily about access and display: particularly when you consider Apple is going after the e-reader market. Apple will open up a new section in the App Store to cater to the iPad, although the device is able to use 140,000 existing iPhone and iPod Touch applications. http://mirai-ltd.com/news-apples-clean-slate-11.aspxThu, 18 Feb 2010 23:28:30 GMT4a836f03-1f01-4c9b-bbd7-5e530f6cf69aEcosystem AnalyticsMobile analytics offers real business value and competitively ensures successful targeting by businesses wishing to promote their own services. Increasing and improving customer satisfaction, mobile analytics can turn companies into information brokers engaged in powerful partnerships with advertisers, content publishers and Web 2.0 companies who will pay a premium to reach specific audiences to create new revenue streams, key to monetising the mobile internet. The more you can understand consumer behaviour the more you will be able to determine, and then provide services that are not only relevant, but ones that the consumer is willing to pay for. http://mirai-ltd.com/news-ecosystem-analytics-9.aspxThu, 18 Feb 2010 23:25:33 GMT4a836f03-1f01-4c9b-bbd7-5e530f6cf69a
